As China's only resort island, Sanya has become the playground of the well-heeled and the battleground of hotel operators. One of the most anticipated openings pre-2020 was the Capella Sanya, an architectural masterpiece that meld together plush gardens, opulent villas, an interactive fountain and a tower of rooms and suites. A handful of good restaurants and a wonderful Auriga Spa complete the pampering allures of this wonderful resort.

Conceptually the Park Hyatt Sanya is probably one of the island's most handsome properties, with contemporary designs and eclectic accents aplenty that set it apart from the rest of the pack. The expansive ocean views enjoyed from some of its suites are also its most alluring attraction for apart from placid azure hues, the, occasional lightning storms can also conjure up aerial spectacles that leave one quite awestruck.

MO Sanya was one of the earliest international penetrations onto the island and therefore its DNA was that of another era. Transitioning into the realities of Sanya today means it has to keep up and be stared down by newer competitors with more height, flash and panache. Still, though the blueprint of a MO property isn't exactly timelessness, it has other saving graces like good restaurants and an excellent spa to keep it afloat and in demand on China's highly competitive pleasure island.
