The Langham Shanghai
A striking juxtaposition to the blocks of heritage Shikumen right at its flanks, The Langham Shanghai is a contemporary fixture in a city still much in love with the classical. The rooms here are handsome and modern, with a winsome atmosphere that is smart yet tranquil.
3 stars Tang Court, retaining the honour for 2 years running, is a stunning restaurant with sterling service that matches the sublime cuisine. In updating Cantonese classics, there aren't obtrusive notes that render them as fancy or altered, just an uncommon dedication to elevating tastes and presentations. Reservations here can stretch for weeks, even months. At Chuan Spa, the treatments and massages are classically attuned. Tea at Lobby Lounge served on Wedgewood wares is a popular attraction amongst the trendy set.
The Langham Club is an outstanding executive lounge that operates till 2am daily with a full service bar. Staff here are keen to make lasting impressions through dedicated and smart service.
The abundance of light filtering through a generous expanse of windows gives effect to a room awash with cheerfulness. The views from such central heights are of course extremely gratifying spectacles. Modern and plush, the designer accents contrast nicely with the heritage air of nearby Xintiandi. Whilst the lobby can stand to benefit from a more rarefied air, there is a distinct character that sets it apart from nearby pretenders.
